When we first started using existing link shorteners, we quickly realized that they all focused on a single function—getting a user from point A to point B after clicking a link. But for business automation professionals like us, a short link is never just a link—it's a key part of a larger workflow, often embedded in sophisticated no-code processes.
The real challenge? The "brains" of these workflows still needed to be built in third-party automation platforms. There was no link shortener designed to enhance and simplify business automation itself. That's when we had our breakthrough idea: what if the short URL wasn't just a redirect tool but a smart automation component in its own right?
Roo is the first URL shortener built by automation professionals, for automation professionals. Our background in business automation and no-code meant we understood exactly what was missing.
We were the first team in Israel to build an app for Zapier back in 2013, and since then, we've been deeply engaged in the automation and no-code space.
Originally, Roo was just an internal tool to solve our own workflow challenges. But as we developed it, we saw the incredible automations it enabled.
By making business processes easier, more powerful, and more flexible, Roo wasn't just a link shortener anymore—it was an automation enabler.
Building Roo came with its challenges. One of the biggest was maintaining speed while adding intelligence. Roo needed to support scheduled redirects, enable click-count-based redirects, and fire webhooks at key moments — all instantly.
We have big plans for Roo, including Dynamic QueryString Metadata, automated disclaimers with A/B testing, and new integrations alongside our existing Make.com integration.
